Newly launched Nursery for tightly-knit South Bristol community

South Bristol’s newest nursery has opened its doors after an ambitious building project undertaken by Helm Construction.
The new building in Chessel Street, Bedminster was completed on time and on budget ready for the official opening
Site manager Phil wheeler said: “This has been a challenging but worthwhile build – replacing the former Boy’s Brigade Hall with a brand new community facility and all within a particularly confined space.
“Site access was very tight and we also had to deal with poor ground conditions. Additionally, we needed to work to a tight, defined budget due to the nature of the project.
“This was a historic site in Bedminster – it was even bombed during the war – and we are hoping the new nursery will take its place as a much loved and valuable facility for local families.
Phil said the new nursery blends in well with its surroundings and complements the existing architecture.
“The exterior has been designed to reflect one of the city’s most recognisable brands – the highly colourful terraced houses in nearby Totterdown.”
The two-storey nursery is built around an attractive garden and playground area.
“The design brief called for extensive areas of bare block and the insulated pipework to help the children appreciate the building process and how their nursery has been put together.
“We believe it will be a great community asset to the Bedminster and Southville areas, providing much needed childcare facilities for residents old and new.”
