Project: Construction of ground floor retail space and six, two bedroom apartments

Helm were tasked with the construction of six new two bedroom apartments, situated over two storeys and above a ground floor open plan retail unit. Particular challenges of the job included the site being very small at only 13m x 15m with the ground floor areas to be constructed in the open space and the upper levels linking in to the adjoining property above. With the site being so small, there were building works being carried out very close to the pedestrian walkway and main road so extra precautions were made to ensure health and safety requirements were met.
Footpath closures were in place to allow room for the welfare unit and for site deliveries. All future crane lifts are to be conducted with a road closure, of which there are 15 organised in total. Deliveries were scheduled for small loads and timed to limit disruption on Redcatch Road.
